This volume contains 14 papers, presented at FORTWIHR Symposium on High Performance Scientific Computing in Munich, June 17-18 1993. The numerical simulation, i.e. the mathematical calculation of technical processes in advance, has gained immensely in significance for numerous key areas of the economy. Today it is possible to understand and master entire technical processes before going into production by means of numerical simulation on the computer. The papers of this volume give a survey on recent research efforts and industrial applications of numerical simulation in the areas fluid mechanics, dynamic systems in aerospace, melting processes and crystal growth, and semi-conductor and electric circuit technology.
